Carrie's Artist Profiles:

Carrie Wild grew up in the Flint Hills area of eastern Kansas, where the rolling hills contain the country's largest expanse of original tallgrass prairie. A love of the outdoors inspires much of her artwork – paintings in which she depicts nature in both realistic and imaginary ways. Some of her favorite subjects are insects and small animals, creatures whose details are often overlooked but are nevertheless miraculous. She believes that natural surroundings are key to our well-being and hopes to inspire appreciation of them through her subjects.

For over ten years, Carrie has worked as both a fine artist and a freelance illustrator. Her paintings have been exhibited at various Indianapolis venues including Editions Limited Gallery, the White River Gardens at the Indianapolis Zoo, the Indianapolis Art Center, and the Indiana State Museum. Carrie sells original paintings, giclée reproductions, and greeting cards featuring her artwork. She creates works on commission and licenses her artwork for selected products and uses.

Some of Carrie's clients have included The Children's Museum of Indianapolis, Sunrise Greetings, Allport Editions, and RSVP/Sellers Publishing. Her illustrations have been published in magazines such as Guideposts, Indianapolis Pet Quarterly, and Branches. Carrie was the feature of an article in the 2004 edition of Artist's and Graphic Designer's Market. She has also designed and taught youth art activities for The Children's Museum of Indianapolis and VSA arts of Indiana. In 2008, Carrie was accepted into the juried Indiana Artisan program.

Carrie's paintings begin with a pencil drawing that is embellished with ink using a stippling technique to create outlines and texture. Watercolor washes are then layered to add depth and define details. Some paintings also feature metallic pigments, such as gold or silver, in borders and highlights. Carrie enjoys studying history and design, and as a result, elements from various artistic movements, as well as other cultures, sometimes appear in her work.

Carrie received her B.A. in Studio Art from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois. She currently resides in Indianapolis, Indiana with her husband and their two cats.
