A solo exhibit of Carrie's paintings called "Things Great and
Small: Works by Carrie Wild" will be displayed at the Indianapolis
Art Center in the
Ruth Lilly Library from July 30 –
September 26, 2010. The subject matter featured in the 26 paintings
includes butterflies,
dragonflies, and other animals, including seven bird paintings from
Carrie's new series
"Taking
the Auspices" [Learn
More].
During the exhibit, Carrie will donate 5% of the
purchase price of each piece sold to the Indiana chapter of the Audubon
Society (bird paintings) or The
Nature Conservancy
(other paintings). An opening for all of the IAC's current exhibits
will take place on Friday September 10 from 6–8 p.m. during the
Fall Open House.
Carrie created an original painting called "Cloud Soul" for inclusion in
a charitable
exhibit to benefit Powered by Girl, a campaign by Hardy Girls Healthy Women
designed to empower teen girls to use
their creativity, wit, and individuality to make a difference. The
exhibit was organized by Tilbury House
Publishers as part of the launch party for Tilbury's new
children's book "One of Us"
written by Peggy Moss and illustrated by Penny Weber. The exhibit and
book launch
were held at Book
Culture in New York City on May 24. All proceeds from the sale of
the art went directly to the Powered by Girl campaign.
Carrie's greeting cards were juried into the Indiana
Artisan program at the latest adjudication in mid-June. The cards
can now be
officially promoted using the Indiana Artisan label and included in
Artisan
events. In the fall of 2008, Carrie was juried into the inaugural group
of Artisans for her original paintings and giclées. The Indiana Artisan
program requires that each medium or product type be separately
reviewed and accepted into the program.
Carrie was selected as one of six featured visual artists in
the
2010 "Spotlight Art: Courage and Hope" exhibit in
Clowes Memorial Hall at Butler University in Indianapolis. The art
exhibit is a
complement
to the annual performing arts fundraiser event "Spotlight:
One Night, One
Stage, One Reason", which benefits the
Indiana AIDS Fund. The exhibit was displayed
from April 12 – May 24 with a portion of the proceeds
from art sales also benefiting the Indiana AIDS Fund.
Carrie was selected to serve as a drawing juror for the
Central and Southern Indiana Region of the 2010 Scholastic Art &
Writing Awards held by The Alliance
for Young Artists & Writers. The regional panel judging took
place on January 16 in Clowes Memorial Hall at Butler University
in Indianapolis. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the
largest, longest-running, and most prestigious recognition program in
the United States for student achievement in visual arts and creative
writing. The awards offer an opportunity for students in grades 7-12 to
have their work professionally evaluated and recognized. The Alliance
also provides further support and encouragement for young artists and
writers through exhibitions, publications, and scholarships.
Carrie's paintings "Autumn
Heron" and "Sun Morpho" were featured
in "Off the Walls II", the second exhibit of fine art by the Indiana
Artisan program.
The exhibit was displayed at the Indiana State Museum from
October 17,
2009 – February 14, 2010.
Selected giclées of Carrie's artwork are now available
at the Cultural
Crossroads store in the Indianapolis International
Airport. Cultural Crossroads features items from museums and other
cultural attractions in Indiana. The
Cultural Crossroads store is located in the airport terminal's Civic
Plaza
(pre-security, open to public).
Carrie's painting
"Mackintosh Blackbird" was juried into the 2009
Postcard
Art Competition & Exhibition (PACE) sponsored by the Curt
Teich
Postcard Archives, part of the Lake County Discovery Museum
in
Wauconda, Illinois. The Curt Teich Postcard Archives is
recognized
throughout the world as the largest public collection of postcards and
related materials. PACE is a biennial juried
exhibition that honors the postcard as an art form and challenges
artists to create original works of art in a 4"x 6"
postcard size. The 2009 PACE exhibit was displayed from October 3, 2009
– January 3, 2010 at the Lake
County Discovery Museum and will travel to various galleries and
cultural institutions throughout 2010.
